Ivy Hill Stormwater Mitigation Project
Project Name: Ivy Hill Stormwater Mitigation Project
Project Duration: 2025 - Ongoing
Consultant/Contractor: Not Yet Awarded
Location: Near Seton Hall University, Woodbine Avenue and Ivy Hill Park in Newark’s West Ward
Project Summary: In 2021, Hurricane Ida had a devastating impact on Newark, with the brunt of the impact hitting the Ivy Hill neighborhood in the West Ward, and Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. Ida’s rainfall led to significant flooding and property damage, leading Newark engineers to put forth solutions to improve stormwater management infrastructure in the area. This project will add additional stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage, mitigate flooding, and lessen the overall impact of larger storm events. The proposed work includes the following:
1,170 linear feet of 42-inch diameter pipe along Woodbine Avenue
740 linear feet of 42-inch diameter pipe along Norman Road
320 linear feet of 42-inch diameter pipe along Ivy Street
Seven equalization pipes that consist of 20 linear feet of 24-inch diameter pipe
New catch basins/storm drains to be added for increased flow to the stormwater lines
The proposed infrastructure will strengthen the stormwater resilience of the Ivy Hill neighborhood and its surrounding areas.
Proposed project site near Woodbine Avenue and Ivy Hill Park.
